This web site was constructed to act as a life log for myself – on it I will post things that move me and things that people will find banal. I feel this blog post falls in to the latter category. I would like to highlight two, incredibly popular, things I have been watching on the box.
The first ticked all the boxes: The VVitch. The Witch (stylized as The VVitch, subtitled A New-England Folktale) is a 2015 historical period supernatural horror film written and directed by Robert Eggers in his directorial debut, and produced by Rodrigo Teixera, Daniel Bekerman, Lars Knudsen, Jodi Redmond, and Jay Van Hoy. It follows a Puritan family encountering forces of evil in the woods beyond their New England farm. Here is the trailer ~
An international co-production of the United States and Canada, the film premiered at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival on 22 January 2015, and was widely release by A24 on 19 February 2016. It received critical acclaim and grossed over $40 million over a $3 million budget. I loved it – It was the creepiest thing I have seen since The Wickerman.
However, as with The Wickerman, you cannot help but take the anti-christian side. In The Wickerman it is the ritual sacrifice of Edward Woodwood’s character, Sgt. Howie. In The Witch I was rooting for the young lady, played by Anya Taylor-Joy. In both films morality triumphs but so does idolatry.
The second thing I want to ramble on about aimlessly is a brand new series that is exclusive to Netflix. Stranger Things is its name.
(I hope there are no spoilers in the trailer.)
Me and the wife have just seen the first episode of the first series. Whilst we will definately be dipping our toes back in the waters – I think there would be just as much left of it even if all of the nostalgia was stripped away.
Don’t get me wrong – We were on the edge of our seats, the soundtrack is immense (vintage synthesisers) and the special effect were good (very good).
Now then, if you have reached this point in the blog – grab yourself a cold one; you deserve it – keep scrolling for more procrastination …..
